Koehn Building Systems had previously worked with the owner of Austin Hardware on several smaller projects. This project began with a phone call from the owner sharing his vision and asking for a budget estimate. After providing a budget number, the owner was ready to move forward. Koehn Building Systems recommended a design contract to solidify the full scope of work and establish hard costs, which the owner approved.
Koehn Building Systems led the design team, managing architectural, civil, and mechanical engineering. Once the project drawings were approved by both the owner and the City of Lee’s Summit, Koehn Building Systems finalized the numbers and contracted the construction phase.
This project presented several challenges. As an addition to the existing building, the tie-in needed to be below the existing eave height while still meeting clearance requirements. The wall cladding needed to match as closely as possible to existing conditions, and a tight schedule was required to accommodate incoming product for Austin Hardware. The Koehn Building Systems team worked diligently and successfully delivered the project on time.
